I am trying to do a favor to a friend who has a kitten tested out to have feline leukemia. I offered to board the kitten for a few months so that she is seperated from the other kittens. However, I have a small dog, Shih Tzu, and I want to make sure the virus would not pass to my dog in any way before I take the kitten.

I wouldnt think it could. Feline Leukemia is only a sickness felines (cats) can have, im pretty sure.
No it cannot be passed from animal to animal. Feline Leukemia isn’t actually a virus, so it isn’t contagious. Your dog will be fine.
Feline Leukemia cannot be passed onto dogs. It is strictly a feline disease, as the name implies
ADD: Your dog will be perfectly safe, although you should let your friend know that her cat may not last very long and could possibly pass away while in your care.
Feline Leukemia is a virus but it is cat-specific. However, the cat if positive won’t live for long. It is fatal. I doubt it will last a few months, especially if it showing any symptoms.
If it is a kitten, she should have all the others tested ASAP - chances are good it got it from its mother and there are others in the litter that have it too.
